I hear a lot about legends and myths. Folks talk about dragons and sea hags, but I pay no heed to that nonsense. I ain’t never seen no dragon, and I ain’t never heard of nobody round here that has either. I know that the sand gits in my drawers and in my eyes and in my boots. I know that the sun burns my skin and stings my eyes. So maybe that’ll be bout the closest thing I ever come to seeing a dragon, and that is alright by me.
They say that some men can change into a animal, can you believe that? Now I know some dirty rat bastards, but that don’t mean they sprouted tails and junk. Anyway.
I seen some strange things here in town, but nothing like all that madness. Shoot, I seen a whole mine collapse on top of bout … *scratches head* well… it was a lot of dwarfs down there anyway. I also was here when the first human strolled in to town. His skin was all white and soft looking. Ain’t seen nothing like that round here for many a year fore he showed up. Most folks around here look more like a horned frog, meself included.
Things sure did change, tho, after the humans rolled in. There may not be many of em, but they sure took charge of the town. Didn’t realize how nasty they could be. I mean, I have gone toe to toe with a bug over the price of a poncho; but that wasn’t nothing to my first run in with a human. Treated me like a dog, but I ain’t pay him no mind.
I ain’t like the other dwarfs in town nowadays. I found what I found, and I ain’t making no apologies for it. If that white skinned human wants it, then he gonna have a battle on his weak little hands.
