Vampire Lore

Dracula Cullen

What do people want from their vampires? The strict lore of what a vampire was, and how a vampire behaved has gone through some vast changes in recent years. I, as well as many others, disagree with a large portion of these changes; however, I do think some changes were needed. I already have my vampire lore established in Delphia, but I would be open to changing the essence if I found a proposal that tickled my fancy. So, how would your vampire look/behave/interact with the world around them? Please, the more detailed the more I can visualize your vampire. Thanks.

I like my vampires as villains, be they day sleepers who burst into flames under the light of the sun or be they like Stoker’s Dracula effectively powerless during the light of the day, yet able to move around under the Day Star with enough blood in them. They don’t date the heroine or hero. They seduce and use the heroine or hero. They are monsters, maybe tortured monsters, but monsters none the less.

So how do you feel about the tortured monster who does his best not to destroy the lives of the innocent, a la Brad Pitt in the Anne Rice movie? Not a hero, for certain. However, if a good person gets turned into a vampire do they automatically become evil? Just a though. Thanks for your input.

Vampires are not the people who they were when they were living. The legend that a vampire casts no reflection comes from an ancient belief that mirrors did not reflect the world, they reflected the soul of the world. Vampires have no souls, so they have no reflections. That which was good within a person is gone when they get turned. Vampires have goals, whatever they may be, and if innocents get destroyed along the way, so be it.

I think vampires would act much like we would within their own realm. I think they would be hunters of man and therefore evil to us, but within their own society they have their own relationships and motivations. Those motivations make them ‘evil’ or ‘good,’ and I do think they would have some residual personality from their previous humanity.

Thank you. I tend to agree with the shades of their lives creeping into their new motivations and desires.
